Suzano officially opens Maranhão BEK pulp mill

SAO PAULO, March 21, 2014 (RISI) - Brazilian pulp and paper producer Suzano on Mar. 20 held the official opening ceremony of its new 1.5 million tonnes/yr bleached eucalyptus kraft (BEK) pulp installed at Imperatriz city, Maranhão state, northeast Brazil. The mill is the first large investment of the sector in that region and opens a new boundary for pulp production in the country, as it will be shipped from the north of Brazil straight to overseas markets, reducing delivery time and avoiding the crowded southeast trade routes.
