SINGAPORE, June 20, 2014 (RISI) - Asia Pacific Resources International extended the maintenance downtime on the 1.8 million tonne/yr bleached hardwood kraft (BHK) pulp line at its Rizhao complex in Shandong province, China, from one week to 17 days.

The line was shut on May 21, with seven days out of action being the firm's initial plan.

It decided to take more days off to carry out thorough maintenance on the line, and also partly due to soft demand in the domestic market.

The BHK line resumed operations on June 7. The curtailment amounted to around 100,000 tonnes, said a spokesman.

The Rizhao mill is operated by the firm's subsidiary, Asia Symbol (Shandong) Pulp & Paper.

The producer had already taken downtime at its Kerinci complex in Indonesia in the first half of this year, slashing mixed hardwood kraft pulp output by 200,000 tonnes.
